An amazing night was had by all. Thanks to all the hard work of Stuart Rosamond, Chris Dart, Eileen Rosamond, Tim Martin and all the Fine Art Degree students at Somerset College the opening of CORE Degree show was an outstanding success.
The evenings' highlights including an opening speech by Sandy Brown and an uplifting talk on the importance of craft and creativity by Satish Kumar. Stuart Rosamond gave his thanks to everyone who had helped make the night possible followed by an enthusiastic thank you to tutors from Natalie Parsley.
Firstly we would like to say a massive Thank You to everyone involved in the exhibition especially our tutors.
It has been an amazing exhibition in a fantastic venue and everyone involved has had great fun!!
The count down is on to the exhibition and work is almost complete.
It's been a fantastic journey so far and we can't wait until all work is ready and up in the Glove Factory.
Remember the exhibition opening night is Wednesday the 28th of May and is then open to the public from Thursday the 29th of May.
We will be shortly posting new photographs of our progress and keeping everyone up to date with all events.
See you all there!!!
Our visit to The Glove Factory Appledore
Thur 14th Feb and a cold winters morning. We all scrambled into the college mini bus for our recognisance to The Glove Factory Appledore. The trip planned previously by lecturers Chris and Stuart, was for some to be the first time they had seen the venue for the end of year show and so was an important visit.
We were met by internationally-renowned ceramic artist and Appledore-based, Sandy Brown (http://www.sandybrownarts.com/contact.htm).The Appledore Arts Festival festival in which we are to exhibit our collections was founded by Sandy. The unveiling of Sandy's new body of work Ritual: the Still Point and the Dance, which has been over a year in the making, will be a highlight of the festival. Visitors will actually enter the exhibition by climbing through one of Sandy's large-scale sculptures.
Students took this opportunity to measure the space and record the floor plan in preparation for the show in May. This is where the works really starts now as the intricate planning and preparation takes place, along with the huge amount of studio work undertaken towards the exhibition!
All the fine art students would like to say a huge thankyou to Sandy for allowing us to use this magnifcant space. Its amazing to think that we are exhibiting in the room where Turner prize winner and environmental artist Richard Long created a piece using local mud from the Torridge river bed.
